Earlier this month I went to a Retreat & Application Course at Ojo Caliente in New Mexico. The workshop was on Core Awareness, proprioception (the ability of knowing where you are in your body), emphasizing the psoas being the messenger of the body. My friend Valerie encouraged me to go. I was in the right place at the right time to say yes.
I got to soak in amazing mineral baths, eat healthy food, play with wonderful women and actually learn things I can apply to my practice. Mostly I turned around a long held health issue for myself.
To tell you the truth, I’ve never given myself such a gift. The essence of being able to go on this trip is of course about self-love.
At the workshop a piece came up about encouragement. I would not have gone if I were not encouraged. Encouragement is at an all-time low. Everything needs a balance of not over praising or under praising and yet we seemed to have lost the importance of this particular act of loving.
In my card readings, and bodywork sessions, I often support people by encouraging them to reach for their dreams and to do whatever they need to do to promote healing themselves. My time at Ojo affirmed this concept even further.
Bringing this idea back to February the month of love and Valentines Day. I’m declaring this month as the self-love month. It seems appropriate, especially since self-love becomes way before loving someone else. Being loved, showing encouragement is important to but that can’t happen until we love ourselves.
If I can love myself with all my heart I believe things will flow much easier.

Story: When my niece was born, I remember speaking to my brother, who was so excited. He said, “I’m in love!” He went on to explain that this wasn’t like falling in love romantically, but was something else entirely.
My niece is now grown, but she still loves her papa and her papa loves her. There’s a mutual admiration that started from the day of her birth.
