BEWARE OF THE IDES OF MARCH
Today is the Ides of March – known as the day Julius Caesar was killed in 44 B.C. Being a Latin student in high school, where ancient Roman occasions were celebrated, I’ve been aware of this day every year since. ‘Beware the Ides of March’ was a prediction of a seerer before Caesar’s actual death.
What I did not know until looking it up on various web sources, was the word Ides comes from the Latin word “Idus” and means “half division” especially in relation to a month. The Ides of March was also a festive day dedicated to the god Mars.
Mars is the warrior God and in astrology represents drive. In the tarot Mars appears on 6 minor arcana cards and in the TOWER card of the Major Arcana, representing upheaval, breakdown of defenses and boundaries, bolt of insight, a catalyst.
In the past, I’ve always been suspicious of the Ides of March, although from this year forward, I’d like to put it out there to look at the Ides of March as auspicious; in asking and finding a bolt of insight and as a catalyst for changes.
