Thoughts On Valentines Day.
The consumer market would like us to believe that Valentines Day encompasses an entire month. Not that I mind a receiving a romantic card or being treated to a special meal, but all that buying to prove my love makes me uncomfortable.
When I’m in a relationship I vacillate between giving a gift and wondering if I’m going to get one.
If I’m not in a relationship I have to work hard on not caring that I’m alone.
The whole thing winds up being silly.
Hence and I might have said this before – Before you are loved or love another person fully, you have to love yourself. I’d like to start the trend of making Valentines Day a reminder to first and foremost to love our-selves.
I can suggest chanting the mantra: “I love myself with all my heart.”
Perhaps we do need a month for this to sink in.
At any rate in honor of Valentines Day, I’d like to share with you the Polarity Wellness Tarot Lover’s card which has an interesting take on the significance of relationships. I’ve included the Dance structure prompts.
LOVERS VI
Sub-Element: Air
Astrology: Gemini – changeable
Anatomy: shoulders
Attributes: The Lovers represent not only sexual lovers, but also complementary partnerships of all kinds. It suggests a full understanding between two people. The Lovers perceive others as equal. The Lovers card signifies sharing, accepting, appreciating, and communicating. It indicates a state of emotional, spiritual, and psychological connectedness.
Advice: You are about to enter, or already have begun, a loving partnership. Learn to recognize what an equal relationship feels like. Treat a business colleague or any relationship with egalitarian respect. Love yourself first and foremost.
Story: My parents met on a blind date. My father’s cousin, Stanley, and my mother’s friend, Sylvia, were dating, and arranged for my father and mother to meet. Before my parents ever met, they both had a dream of moving to the other side of the George Washington Bridge and raising a family. It was love at first sight. They both knew they could make an equal partnership.
My parents were married fourteen months later and moved to New Jersey. They never stopped loving each other.
To invoke any kind of relationship in your life do a brief dance?
Here’s the Dance structure:
Deep intense movement
Air & Ether elements – scattered and spacious
Move from the shoulders
Throat Chakra – use sound
Move in a spiral
THE MISSING PIECE
Recently, I’ve been taking dance classes. In one class we were instructed to move freely from our center, which we had just located. She also said, “It becomes dance when you can feel it in your body.”
While the teacher was playing a harmonica we could move and when she stopped playing, we had to freeze. Then we continued to move when the harmonica began again. This isn’t really a new instruction for me but something about in the transition of moving to stopping, I finally understood.
I was in my body feeling it dance, not in just where I was in my body but something more graceful and aware. In a sense dancing is getting me to love myself.
