Fire is the sun, the energy that sustains everything living. The basic qualities of the Fire element are obviously heat, brightness and clarity. Since Fire wants to take charge and insists on being seen, Fire is compelling.
Even though Fire has many powerful attributes, it can also be very destructive. In nature any source of heat or combustion belongs to this element. Fire is recognized anywhere from a warm fireplace to an intense forest fire raging, or a slow burning candle. Fire Element is seen as any type of explosion or eruption, including volcanoes.
In the physical body the Fire Element governs our upper digestive system, which is our body’s way of burning fuel for energy. When Fire is in the tissues it will feel like shaking. This is a different feeling than the tissue movement of Air. Fire is seen as fevers, all types of inflammation or skin rashes. It is interesting to me that Fire is also the sense of sight and foresight. Viewing the Tarot’s association of Fire to Wands helped me to see how this connection was made.
You know a fiery voice when you hear it because is loud and sharp, sometimes overbearing. Since Fire stands out, it is easy to see how fiery emotions are enthusiastic and excited. Fire insists on power, motivation and drive. Fire is what causes us to be assertive, boisterous and maintain high self-esteem. When out of control, fire is angry and resentful.
Mentally, fire is direct, blunt, honest and forthright. Fire takes charge and is forceful.
